UNHCR on the project "Ukrainian books
for Ukrainian children"
UNHCR about us and our project “Ukrainian Books for Ukrainian Children”
On this day dedicated to the joy of reading and the power of literature, we’re happy to share a video produced in collaboration with UNHCR, which highlights an important initiative by the Swiss association RETURN — “Ukrainian Books for Ukrainian Children”.
In the video, Yevgen Getman, co-founder of RETURN, shares insights into the organisation’s role in the project and the support from Swiss partners who help Ukrainian children maintain a connection to their native language and culture through books.
The video also features heartfelt comments from Ukrainian children themselves, expressing how important it is for them to keep reading in their native language and to feel connected to their culture — even in displacement.
Research confirms that maintaining the mother tongue significantly supports the learning of the host country’s language and eases integration into a new society.
Let’s continue supporting initiatives that preserve culture, promote literacy, and help children feel at home — wherever they are.
